Achieve cost savings and high rates of student success with early intervention
Laurel Life’s elementary transition program is a model therapeutic classroom focused on prevention and early intervention. Integrating the brain-based research of resiliency and trauma along with years of experience working with children and their families in both therapeutic and academic arenas, this classroom provides the missing components to help children succeed in school and at home while avoiding lifelong labels.
Comprehensive, integrated services
By taking a holistic approach that includes therapeutic interventions and support for families as well as classroom teachers, Laurel Life dramatically increases the percentage of students that successfully transition out of emotional support classrooms. Available for all students at all academic levels, the elementary transition classroom uses district curriculum and lesson plans to keep students on track academically allowing them to return to their regular classrooms without additional frustration.
Laurel Life’s emphasis on prevention and early intervention means districts can begin providing intensive behavioral support as soon as the first concern is identified without having to label students with an emotional disturbance. As a result, districts can minimize the need for special education identification and personal care assistants, leading to tangible, long-term savings that can exceed $250,000 in the first year.
Multi-tiered system of support
The elementary transition classroom parallels the Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTII) multi-tiered system of interventions by meeting students “where they are” with customized treatment plans and then continuing to support them as they move from one level to another.
Unique resiliency model
Laurel Life’s innovative resiliency model includes daily routines to help reduce stress and foster predictability. Instruction is designed to address all learning styles and relax the brain through the presentation of core concepts, making it more receptive and allowing learning to occur.
In addition to the full classroom model, Laurel Life offers professional development seminars, coaching, workshops and consulting on topics related to behavioral interventions and resiliency-based environments. What Our Partner Districts are Saying
“As a district, we have observed that our students have made significant gains both academically and socially through the therapeutic and systemic approach that the Transition Program has established. Not only has this program increased the level of educational, social and emotional services, but it has also proven to be a significant cost saving to the school district.” - Eastern York School District Administration, York, Pa.
“I am confident that I can identify multiple successes that have occurred in a short period of time … I’d highly recommend this resource to work in any classroom, building or district." - Billy Hodge, Assistant Superintendent, Chambersburg Area School District, Chambersburg, Pa.
